ANTIQUES RESTORATION We are a small home based business located to the west of Southampton on the edge of the New Forest in Southern England, and have been involved in the antiques business for the last 20 years. Our main work is the restoration of antique furniture and clocks, which we carry out in our own well equipped workshop on the premises. Over the years we have built up a reputation amongst dealers and private customers for fine craftsmanship, high quality work, fair prices and reliability. Restoration work is always carried out sympathetically, and we follow the principle that if the restoration is visible to any but the most highly trained and suspicious eye, then we have failed. To this end, we use only the best quality materials, period timbers and veneers, and all the techniques we employ are essentially traditional and hand based. We never advertise for work, and are constantly busy, although we can always find time to accommodate discerning new customers.
ANTIQUES SALES
Knowing and working for a number of local antiques dealers, we are in an excellent position to buy interesting antiques at great prices, and until starting a family, we regularly exhibited at good quality antiques fairs around the country. Nowadays travelling is restricted to occasional buying trips and holidays, and eBay has taken over as our most important selling venue. We find eBay is a great way to reach a global market for our antiques, and avoids the high fees charged by traditional auction houses( up to 40%), and we are happy to pass on this benefit to our customers by starting auctions or setting reserves at a price of 10% above cost.
We are constantly looking for interesting objects to list on eBay, and having a broad knowledge of antiques, we will list a wide range of items from clocks to tribal artefacts, and glassware to metalware to name but a few. We always strive to make sure that the items are genuine, of high quality, and accurately described, and would certainly be happy to offer a full refund of purchase price if this turned out not to be the case. We take great care to photograph the items as well as possible, and to show as much detail as we can. As you can see from looking at our feedback, we have many happy customers, many of whom have bought several items, and we look forward to finding many more interesting items to sell on eBay over the coming years.
Sending items is always a worry when selling on eBay, and we pride ourselves on having an excellent record of items arriving on time and undamaged. Problems do occasionally arise, however, and in spite of our best efforts to pack items as carefully as possible, we have had the odd breakage in transit. This is why we always quote for posting by Royal Mail Special Delivery, with enhanced compensation where appropriate, or by Acclaim Parcel Express courier service (www.acclaim-southampton.co.uk), who provide a better and cheaper service than Parcelforce, on the larger items. This means that on the rare times when things have gone wrong, we have been able to recompense for damage or loss to the buyers satisfaction.
We are also very happy for our buyers to collect their items in person, or to deliver larger items such as longcase clocks or furniture in person, for a reasonable charge based on distance. (40p per mile round trip mileage using RAC routefinder http://www.rac.co.uk/).
