our products |
|
|
all our products are brand new
unless otherwise stated, with most products being hand assembled in
the UK by highly skilled craftsmen for maximum quality and
endurance. This ensures only the best in manufacturing and
guarantees we can pass on to our custumers the excellent standards
produced. Unlike other suppliers of sometimes cheaper jewellery
products manufactured abroad, we only sell quality goods that we can
rely on. Hence nearly all our new items are manufactured in the
Uk. We only deal with the very best gem suppliers from all over the
world.
all our Gold, Silver and
Platinum products are all fully hallmarked where necessary (see
below) to current UK standards.
all items are in stock when
originally advertised, but are subject to being offered for sale
elsewhere and are therefore subsequently liable to move in and out
periodically. They are always available from our
suppliers/manufacturers as a catalogue item, but may be subject to
manufacturing times. These times vary considerably depending upon
the complexity of the request, and although we always try for early
completion, are largely dependent upon our suppliers. We do not have
all sizes of ring design in stock, but all sizes are available as a
catalogue item. Ordering of an out of stock size may increase
delivery time considerably.
we always do our very best to
describe items we have for sale as accurately as conditions allow.
Sometimes weights, dimensions, and/or colours can vary slightly. All
weights are approximate and may differ by up to 10% depending upon
the manufacturing process. This is normal and abides by the British
Jewellers Association guidelines. These variations are usually
extremely small and are natural and beyond our control. We
understand that sometimes photographs, and/or computer screens, do
not do our products the true justice they rightly deserve. But that
is the nature of shopping on the internet. We want you to rest
assure that our beautiful items of jewellery are of the very best
quality and colour, and will definitely look even more spectacular
when worn.
for your protection, all our
items are hallmarked in accordance with UK law. Hallmarks are small
markings stamped on gold, silver and platinum articles. A hallmark
means that the article has been independently tested and guarantees
that it conforms to all legal standards of purity (fineness). These
tests are carried out only by an Assay Office, of which there are
four in the UK - London, Birmingham, Sheffield and Edinburgh. The
Hallmarking Act 1973 changed on 1 January 1999 and allows articles
of higher and lower standards of fineness to be sold. This brings UK
law into line with European law. Consumers may now chose from a much
wider range of goods but continue to benefit from the same level of
protection. It is illegal for any trader to sell or describe a
precious metal as gold, silver or platinum unless it is hallmarked.
Gold articles weighing less than 1 gram, silver articles weighing
less than 7.78 grams and platinum articles weighing less than half a
gram are exempt from hallmarking. All our sterling silver jewellery
is stamped with the fineness mark 925 which guarantees that the
jewellery you are buying is of the highest quality and complies with
current hallmarking law.

our
diamonds |
|
|
all the diamonds
used in the making of our jewellery have been purchased from
suppliers and manufacturers under the condition they are conflict
free..,
A diamond is a
conflict-free diamond if its profit is not used to fund war, and it is mined and
produced under ethical conditions.
find the information you need to learn
about diamonds...,
make up
of a Diamond
diamond is
the world's hardest natural substance and is widely considered to be
the most precious stone on earth, although there are some gemstones
that fetch prices higher than even the highest quality
diamonds.
diamonds
are often the epitomy of romance and are the gifts of choice for
engagements or wedding anniversaries (especially for the 10th, 60th
and 75th wedding anniversaries).
while
diamonds are usually clear/white stones, there are fancy colour
diamond varieties and black. Diamond prices vary widely because not all
diamonds are created equal.
at
Nuttalls of Chester Ltd we offer a vast range of the most
traditional and fancy shape diamonds - examples below.

the value
of a diamond (and most other gemstones) is dependent upon a
combination of the following '4 C's' - cut,
colour, clarity and carat....,
the
cut
the cut of
a diamond does not refer to its shape, which may be for example
round, rectangular, marquise, or even heart shape, but how close has
the jeweller come to faceting the stone to ideal proportions.
Basically, has the stone been expertly cut to unlock the hidden
fire, and produce sparkle - its brilliance!
the cut
enables a diamond to make the best use of light.
- When a
diamond is cut to good proportions, light is reflected from one
facet to another and dispersed through the top of the stone.
- If the
cut of the diamond is too deep, some light escapes through the
opposite side of the pavilion
- If the
cut is too shallow, light escapes through the pavilion before it
can be reflected
what cut
is best?
Nuttalls
of Chester Ltd recommend you always purchase diamonds from reputable
and experienced jewellers, to ensure the cut to be of the very
highest standard, which will allow it to show of all its
glory.
the
colour
the colour
of a diamond is produced when light passes through the stone and is
divided into a spectrum of colours, which are then reflected as
colour flashes, known as "fire". The less colour in a diamond, the
more colourful the fire, and the better the colour grade.
| Absolutely
colourless. The highest colour grade, which is extremely
rare. |
| Colourless.
Only minute traces of colour can be detected by an expert
gemmologist. A rare diamond. |
| Colourless.
Slight colour detected by an expert gemmologist, but still
considered a "colourless" grade. A high-quality diamond.
|
| Near-colourless. Colour
noticeable when compared to diamonds of better grades, but
these grades offer excellent value. |
| Near-colourless. Colour slightly
detectable. An excellent value. |
| Noticeable
colour. Very faint to faint yellow-brown tint.
|
|
More noticeable colour . Faint to
more tinted yellow-brown tint

|
which
colour is best?
Nuttalls
of Chester Ltd recommend:-
-
for the
purist, look for a colourless diamond with a grade of
D-F
-
for an
excellent value in a diamond with no noticeable colour to the
unaided eye, look for a near-colourless grade of G-I
-
or, if
you'd rather not compromise on colour but would like to stay on
budget, choose a diamond with a good cut, SI1–SI2 clarity. It will
still be beautiful to the unaided eye and still produce tremendous
sparkle!
the
clarity
the most
sought after and valuable diamonds are those that are absolutely
clear. But most diamonds do have some degree of inclusions - a trace
mineral, fracture, or other imperfection that contributes to the
unique fingerprint of a gemstone. All but the rarest gemstones
contain inclusions, which are created during the gemstones'
formation in the earth - and this is how they are graded.

which clarity is best?
Nuttalls
of Chester Ltd recommend you select a Diamond that is said to be
"eye-clean". Basically it has no visible inclusions to the unaided
naked eye that may detract from its beauty. These usually provide
excellent value compared to that of F and IF grades.
the carat
weight
below is
the standard carat weight to mm width size. No matter what shape of
diamond, the carat weight can vary depending upon cut. For example
if a diamond has been cut shallow, although it will seem to be the
standard weight when viewed from above, it will in fact have a
lesser carat weight than if it was cut to standard
proportions.

which
weight is best?
Nuttalls
of Chester Ltd recommend that you choose diamond weight carefully.
Even for those lucky enough to have no constraints on budget,
'bigger' is not always best.
certification and valuation
all of our
diamonds used in the supply of our handmade bespoke items of
jewellery can be supplied with certification upon request. This
certificate, or diamond grading report, is an independent and
detailed report created by a team of gemmologists, taking into
account all of the above attributes - dimensions, clarity, colour
and cut etc. Depending upon the supplying source, these certificates
come under many different guises, the best known being the GIA
(Gemmological Institute of America), AGSL (American Gem Society
Laborartories) and EGL (European Gemological Laboratory). We also
use the expertise of other lesser known laboratories and provide
their reports when supplying our diamonds, but you can be assured
that they all confirm to BJA (British Jewellers Association)
standards and all other British trading standards practices, and do
not in any way compromise authenticity of the gemstone.
We also
provide independent valuations ffor replacement on many of our diamond
jewellery free of charge, and all other items can be valued at an
extremely competitive rate upon request. These concise reports are
guaranteed for 10 years and are appropriate for all proof of
insurance claims. They also the reinforce the massive savings on
recommended retail selling prices we provide compared to other high
street and internet stores.
choosing the perfect diamond
the best
way to determine what size is best is by getting an idea of what you
are realistically expecting.
if you
have a set budget, explore all your options and you'll find that
there is a wide range of diamond carat weights and qualities
available in your price range.
if the
recipient is very active or not used to wearing jewellery, they may
find themselves bumping or nicking the new ring. Consider a smaller
size diamond or a setting that protects a larger diamond from
getting knocked against doors and counters.
also keep
in mind that the smaller the finger, the larger the diamond will
appear. A 1½-carat diamond solitaire looks much larger on a size J
finger than a size Q. If you have already chosen a setting, make
sure you choose a diamond to fit.
if a large
carat weight is important to you, yet you're working within a
budget, consider a diamond with a good cut, SI1–SI2 clarity, and an
I or J colour grade.
remember
"diamonds are forever", so if you follow these simple steps you are
sure to find your perfect "best friend".
Nuttalls of Chester Ltd estimate that all our
diamonds (unless fancy coloured) greater than or equal to 0.2cts are
usually minimum G-H colour and SI clarity. Below 0.2cts they are
usually minimum colour J-K and and clarity
I1-I2.
after
care
diamonds
are the hardest substance on earth. They are uniquely resistant to
damage by heat or scratching, and can be cut or polished only by
another diamond — but an extremely hard blow to the girdle can cause
a diamond to chip. By having your diamond set in a relatively
protective setting, and remaining conscious of it on your finger,
you can keep your diamond intact for a lifetime. Exposure during
ordinary wear to perspiration and household chemicals, like chlorine
and hairspray, can cause buildup that dulls the surface of a
diamond. We suggest periodic cleanings to keep the diamond brilliant
and refractive and sparkling
cleaning
a solution of one part ammonia and six
parts water can be used to clean diamond jewellery at home. If
cleaning by hand, gentle scrubbing with a soft brush should loosen
most dirt and greatly increase the brilliance of the diamond, but be
careful not to scratch the metal of your setting. Once a year, it is
a good idea to have your diamond cleaned and have the security of
the setting checked.
storage
we
recommend that all diamond jewellery is stored individually in soft
cloth pouches when not being worn to prevent the diamond or diamonds
from scratching each other or other jewellery. |

ring
size chart |
|
|
although
this chart won't figure out your loved ones ring size without them
knowing, it will help you convert from one ring size to another. You
can work out the size by downloading the Nuttalls of
Chester Ring Size Finder and following the instructions.
Find out her ring
size Secretly:
remember, a woman's ring size is different for
each finger. If she leaves her rings lying around, make an
impression in a bar of soap or trace the inside of the ring on a
piece of paper. You might try one of her rings on your own finger.
Push it down as far as you can, mark the spot with a pen, then go
straight to the jeweler and let him measure it for you.
Alternatively, her friends may be able to help you out by asking her
for her ring size or trying on one of her rings to compare it to
their own. Best of all, slip one of her rings into your pocket and
show it to a jeweler…if you can do it without arousing suspicion.
Another idea is ask her parents for help, that is if you have a good
relationship with them!
Best of luck....! |
