NBT's eBay userscripts

I've written a few scripts for use with eBay's website. This page describes what the scripts do and how to install them.

What are userscripts?

Userscripts (also referred to as Greasemonkey scripts or simply as scripts) are Javascript code files that can be added to your browser to customise or improve the way a web site works. My scripts are designed to work in the following web browsers:

Firefox, using an add-on called Greasemonkey
Google Chrome, using an extension called Tampermonkey

Installing the scripts

Show Instructions for Firefox users...

Step 1: Please upgrade to the latest version of Firefox if you're using an older version. The scripts might not run properly in older browsers.
Step 2: Install the Greasemonkey add-on, if you don't have it already. Restart Firefox when prompted, to complete the installation:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/
Step 3:Click on the script you want to install from the list below. A pop-up window titled "Greasemonkey installation" should appear. Install the script by clicking the Install button.

Show Instructions for Google Chrome users...

Step 1: Make sure you're using at least version 18 of the browser. You can check this by clicking the menu button and selecting 'About Google Chrome'.
Step 2: Install the Tampermonkey extension:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo
Step 3: Click on the script you want to install from the list below. A pop-up alert saying "Do you want to install this userscript: in Tampermonkey (Ok) or natively in Chrome (Cancel)" should appear. Click OK, then follow the remaining instructions.

All these scripts will work on at least ebay.co.uk and ebay.com. To install a script, click on the script name. Please read the instructions for your browser first (see above).

To see more detailed information about a script, click on the 'Show details' button.

 • SCRIPT #1: Add Enlarge Picture Option to eBay Search Results Updated: 28-Feb

  • Adds an 'Enlarge' link to all search results
  • Hovering the mouse over the link will display an enlarged version of the listing's picture
  • It can also be configured to enlarge the picture when you click on the link

 • SCRIPT #2: Add Start Time to Ebay Listings

  • Displays the listing start time on each listing
  • Works on the following eBay sites: COM, UK, IE, DE and AU
  • This script requires you to have an eBay AppID - see this page for more information

 • SCRIPT #3: eBay: reinstate text-only format

  • Adds back the link for text-only format when viewing sellers' listings
  • Appears on both active and completed listings views
  • Works on the UK and US sites

 • SCRIPT #4: Improve viewing of updated threads (eBay Discussion Boards)

  • Shows the number of new replies next to updated threads
  • Clicking to view a thread takes you straight to the last post you read
  • Currently works on the UK, US and AU discussion boards

 • SCRIPT #5: Show full item titles in eBay search results

  • This script fixes search results pages so that you always see the full item title (up to 80 characters)
  • No more truncated titles on search results or shop pages
  • Works on the US (ebay.com) and the UK (ebay.co.uk) sites
  • Note: due to recent changes to the site, this script may no longer be needed

SCRIPT #6: eBay Discussion Boards automatic spell checker No longer needed !!

  • Automatically enables the built-in Firefox spell checker in the post editor
  • Spelling mistakes are underlined with a red line
  • Right-click the word to select the corrected spelling or add it to the dictionary
  • Works on the US and the UK discussion boards

 • SCRIPT #7: Load original eBay completed listing page

  • When you view a completed listing, this script will automatically load the original listing page in place of the new overview page
  • Works on the US (ebay.com) and the UK (ebay.co.uk) sites

 • SCRIPT #8: eBay Local Time

  • Converts times shown on ebay.com and ebay.co.uk to your local time
  • Includes listing end times and some other times displayed on the site
  • All converted times are marked by a green star (see image below)
  • The original time can still be seen by hovering the mouse over the local time
  • Note: the script relies on your computer's time zone and daylight saving time settings to be correct; if these are not correctly configured, the local time shown will be wrong

Script management

In Firefox, scripts can be managed and removed using the Firefox Add-ons Manager (select Add-ons from the orange Firefox button, or Tools -> Add-ons from the menu bar). The User Scripts tab shows all currently installed scripts.

In Google Chrome, scripts can be managed by clicking by Tampermonkey icon in the toolbar, then selecting Options.

To uninstall a script, click the 'Remove' button or 'Delete' icon next to the script's name.

Reinstalling an existing script will automatically update it to the current version. This is a useful way to make sure you're using the latest version.

A couple of the scripts have an automatic update checker built-in, and you will get notified when a new version of the script is available.

Help and feedback

I hope you find these scripts useful. Please contact me through eBay if you have any problems installing or using them. Thanks!

If a previously working script stops working, it's probably because eBay made a change to the site code. If that happens, please let me know so I can update it.

Bug reports and comments are welcome.
