Supporting LOROS
|
LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering) is a local charity providing care and support within Leicestershire and Rutland. LOROS charges no fees for its services, which are available to all local people regardless of their race or creed.
The Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice is a specialist centre providing skilled nursing and medical care, supported by physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers, in an environment that recognises the particular needs of patients and their families. It provides expertise in controlling pain and other distressing symptoms as well as offering emotional, spiritual and social care, which allows patients to live as normal a life as possible. Working with the whole family enables both the patient and the family to cope with the changing situation so that they are able to make best use of the limited time together available to them. LOROS treats patients from the age of eighteen years and upwards.
LOROS Hospice care includes the facilities of our Palliative Day Therapy Unit, Manor Croft, for up to twenty patients per day (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Manor Croft, situated in the Stoneygate/Knighton area of Leicester, is a spacious family house with a delightful garden. The house has been adapted to the various needs of those receiving care. It is friendly and informal with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The generous support that LOROS receives from the local community makes such a difference to the patients, as it enables the hospice to continue to provide specialist care for the local people of Leicestershire and Rutland. LOROS cares for both the patients and for their families in many ways and seeks to ensure that the specific needs of the individual patients are met.
The NHS supports the work of the hospice with a grant, which covers about 40% of the running costs. The charity relies upon the support of local people, companies and organisations in order to raise million of voluntary income each year.
LOROS has been open for 21 years; let's see it providing care for many years to come!
