Our ethos and about the slings.
When we began selling our slings on eBay we found ourselves the only ones in the UK who were selling ring slings and as previously stated we were sewing them ourselves. We made a concious decision to support our manufacturing industry here in the UK by having our slings sewn locally by a Scottish company with over 30 years of experience in the industry. Many of our slings are hybrids of the many styles of slings that have been used for centuries by indigenous people throughout the world, with my experience I was able to tweak them in small ways that really matter and made a difference to the performance and wearability of the sling. Another very important decision we made was to only sell the slings ourselves ot to groups for fundraising or other work at home mums, hence the reason you wont find us in shops. The reason behind this is simply to keep the cost as low as we can for you the buyer as more than most I know just how expensive having children can be! Another important choice we made some time ago was to discontinue the use of the UK manufactured (welded steele) rings. Although these rings have been UK safety tested, they were not specifically designed or tested for use on baby carriers and they are known to cause problems with fabric carriers. Freedom Slings only use rings which are manufactured by SlingRings who specialise in making rings solely for use in baby carriers.
Below I have described each of the sling types that are available from Freedom Slings and what each sling type is best suited for.
Padded Freedom Sling
This Padded Sling was the original Midwife endorsed Freedom Sling It has specially positioned wide padded rails which offer extra head support for your baby whilst being fed in the sling. For babies and toddlers who are being carried in the hip carry position the padding offers extra comfort across the back and behind the knees.
Best for - hands free breastfeeding
Freedom Sling
The best all round sling. It offers all the carry positions that you could need. Allows for hands free breastfeeding.
Best for – Everyday regular use from birth to 3yrs+.
Thrift Sling
Basic range of sling which was introduced to encourage sling wearing. It is the same quality as our regular ranges but as it is only available in the standard size and limited colour choices and without the pocket, it makes a great starter sling or a good basic sling for those who want to give baby-wearing a go without spending too much money.
Best for – introduction to baby-wearing
Padded Thrifty
The padded thrifty is a neatly designed compact sling. The narrow, lightly padded sides soften the edges of the sling and the special folds of the shoulder section make for a sleeker looking sling whilst still allowing the fabric to fan the shoulder which is especially needed for carrying heavier babies and toddlers.
Best for – a smaller framed wearer and traveling
All the above ring slings are by far the most versatile of all of the slings as they offer multi carry positions for all babies and toddlers including an upright carry position even for newborns…….something invaluable for colicky baby.
Coory and Carry
This sling along with its lightweight counterpart, the freedom pouch, was designed with the first time parent in mind. It is also more suited to the cold winter months as its fully padded pouch area is ideal for keeping your baby warm and comfy or as we say here in Scotland ‘cooried in’. it is and easy to use adjustable pouch type sling which comes complete with drawstring at the sides.
Best for – Cold winter months and first time parents
Freedom Pouch
The style and ease of use of this sling makes it very popular with dads. The design of the pouch area mimics the positioning of your baby whilst in the womb making it a great sling for comforting an unsettled newborn and when worn by dad, gives a tired new mum some much needed rest.
Best for – new parents and unsettled babies
Reversible Murron’s Pouch
This is one of our top selling slings with this sling you get two contrasting colours that can be worn either way round. It is a really easy to use pouch sling which has to be ordered in the correct size (see sizing chart on listing).
Best for – Traveling and school runs
All of our slings come with comprehensive pictorial instructions on how to wear the sling in a variety of positions. All can be used from newborn.
