Lomonosov
Founded in 1744 by Peter the Great’s daughter, Empress Elizabeth, Lomonosov Porcelain is one of the oldest porcelain manufacturers in Europe. From its first porcelain bear, hand-made by the inventor of Russian porcelain, Dmitry Vinogradov, Lomonosov has continued the tradition of creating life through porcelain. This quality, demanded by the Imperial Romanov Family, can still be found two and a half centuries later, when more than 300 different types of figurines are made at the factory for people throughout the world to enjoy. And every one of them is hand-made and hand-painted. It is this special attention to detail of Lomonosov artists which infuses each figurine with life, soul and individuality.
Backstamp
Our Lomonosov items bear the Lomonosov logo on the base. Some also have the words "Made in Russia". The backstamp is usually a grey-ish blue, although sometimes it can be a darker blue or even red.
North Light @ Wade
North Light sculptures have been in production since 1978 and are renowned worldwide for their high quality and true-to-life detail. They are beautifully crafted in a mixture of ceramic and resin, then hand painted and finished in a matt glaze. Every figure is carefully moulded, cast, fettled and hand painted to create a unique piece of artwork worthy of the most prominent display space.
Two new ranges have recently been introduced to the North Light @ Wade range: the Premier Dog Collection and the Premier Horse Collection. These figures are made to the same exacting standards as the original models, but are available at considerably lower prices, as they are produced in bulk and not made to order as the models in the original ranges are.
The original North Light animal figures are still available and we are continuing to stock them. However, because they are made individually to order, the cost has increased considerably in 2008 and we are having to increase our prices as a consequence when we receive new stock.
Backstamp
Our North Light @ Wade animal figures bear either the original North Light backstamp or the new North Light @ Wade logo. They are all brand new and in mint condition.
Hagen-Renaker
Hagen-Renaker have been producing miniature porcelain animals in the United States since the mid-1940s. John Renaker, one of the founders of the factory, was a friend of George Wade of Wade Whimsies fame, and these exquisite little figures have been nicknamed the American Whimsies. The factory produces an extensive range of animals, all beautifully modelled and with the delicacy of the early Wade Whimsies. Their size and detail make these dainty little models extremely attractive and collectable.
In addition to the Miniatures, Hagen-Renaker also produce a slightly larger (and more expensive) range, called Specialties. This range covers a variety of animals, both real and imaginary, including the Pedigree Line, a series of beautifully modelled pedigree dogs on a porcelain base.

Hagen-Renaker Miniatures are unmarked, but the Specialties, including the Pedigree Line, bear the Hagen-Renaker mark on the base.
Scitalis (Astrakhan)
The Scitalis porcelain factory is situated in Astrakhan, in southern Russia. It started producing beautiful animal figurines in 1991, during the “Perestroika” period. Production of the animals is being developed continuously and the factory now produces over 200 items. Each piece is carefully hand painted, so no two are exactly the same and colours may vary slightly from one piece to another.
Backstamp
The factory mark, a stylised Russian “S” (which looks like an English “C”), appears on the base of each animal figure.
Wagner & Apel
In one of the most beautiful areas of Germany, the Thuringian Forest, in a village called Lippelsdorf, you will find Wagner and Apel, a very special kind of porcelain manufacturer. The company was founded in 1877 as Kuch & Company. Bernhard Wagner was one of their first employees, and in 1883, he purchased a stake in the organisation and became a partner. Eighteen years later, in 1901, Bernhard Wagner joined forces with Anton Apel and Bernhard Apel to purchase the rest of Kuch & Company. They renamed the company Wagner & Apel 1877, and it has borne that name ever since.
About the same time, the railroads came to Lippelsdorf and W&A's markets began to expand. This enabled them to sell their figurines across Germany, Scandinavia, England, France, and Switzerland, and the business began to prosper. World War II brought significant changes to Wagner & Apel. Since Lippelsdorf was located in East Germany, these foreign markets were not available after the war ended, and in the 1970s, Wagner & Apel 1877 became state-owned. Rather than give up their heritage, the Wagner & Apel family members stayed with the company as employees, and continued to refine their skills as porcelain artisans. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in November, 1989, Bernhard Wagner's heirs were able to regain ownership of their family business and the company is now being run by the fourth and fifth generations of his descendants.
The Wagner & Apel team consists of 18 highly motivated porcelain workers who give the W&A trademark its personal touch, producing an extensive range of handcrafted and hand painted porcelain figures.
