International Trade made Easy
Buying from a foreign seller can be as easy as buying locally. If you are British, you are buying locally, so ignore all this. If you have a credit Card, US dollars currency or a US Checking Account,access to US dollar money orders, including ordinary (green edge) USPS postal money orders or for mainland Europe, a Euro bank account that allows cheap IBAN transfers, then there will be little noticeable difference, compared with a local purchase. Unhappily I cannot take any other than UK and US cheques/checks, Euros have to be currency notes or IBAN transfer.How Come ?
It is easy because we accept payment in ordinary US personal check, Money order, currency or Credit card, without any bother of sending Foreign Currency payments and the trouble and expense this involves. Our policy of shipping on receipt of personal checks means we can deliver quicker than domestic sellers who wait for clearance. We also accept responsibility for getting your item to you safely. If it is broken it is my fault for not packing it well enough.In more than eleven years on eBay I have had only half a dozen small bad checks, but do not all rush. I would prefer no more just now.
Credit Cards
We accept these through either my Bank of Scotland merchant account or a secure web-based system. At present, as my merchant account is UK based, I can only charge you in Sterling for your item, but this will be the exact equivalent of the dollar bid price plus postage.
Some other Stuff
The 'Request total' button will just get you a version of my end of sale notice that I send very soon, (usually within a minute) after every sale. The reason for this is that as a UK seller selling mainly on ebay.com, all the assumptions of the ebay invoice process are wrong or irrelevant in my case, as they assume the seller is USA resident and work from this basis to calculate things.
All you need to know is the total to pay, this is something you can add up for yourself, by adding the total of your winning bid and the postage/shipping which is always in the item description.
Don't worry about getting any conversions of currency wrong, reasonably near is accurate enough. I suggest the easiest way is to look up the item on your national ebay site such as ebay.de or ebay.co.uk where you will find an acceptable conversion in Euros or Pounds or whatever, just by the bid figure. Don't let the word 'Approximate' faze you, this means 'to the nearest penny' which is easily near enough.

This is a selection of stuff I am not listing on ebay yet, either because it is too big or heavy for easy shipping, or because I like to have the things around the house.
Lastly, a comment about eBay e-mails. I suspect the corporate goal is to channel all communication between buyers and sellers through eBay webmail, and cut off direct contact between buyer and seller eventually. This will facilitate making Paypal the only permissible payment method. About this time US antitrust legislation may cut in and force a break-up, like the big telephone companies a few years ago, but for now I for one intend to keep it simple, and communicate as a real person with a direct e-mail address. If you ask me a question through ebay, make sure you do not tick the box that says ' Hide my e-mail address' as you won't get an answer.
