![]() Cushna and George the Best of Friends Making A Difference Greyhound Gap is a relatively new organisation founded by Lisa Cartwright at the end of July 2003 we aim to help all the UK Sighthound rescues in there quest to help rehome these wonderful dogs. We are an independant group of freelance volunteers willing to step into and bridge the gap in whatever aspect or capacity the rescues need us to homechecking, fostering, transporting or fundraising. To enable us to continue our work and allow our organsiation to grow we need to raise much needed funds! The sale of items on ebay will help to maintain greyhoundgaps running, allow us to purchase merchandise to raise more money and most importantly help us to donate amounts to other rescues who need it. We hope as we grow to start to be able to help some hounds ourselves by taking them from death row pounds spaying/neutering them, vaccinating, microchipping and any other care they need before we actively seek to find them there new forever home. Greyhounds As Pets Greyhounds make wonderful pets and suit people from all walks of life! They are very loving and rewarding dogs to offer you heart and home to and the more you learn about your greyhound the more you will be amazed at how sweet, gentle and funny they are. Contrary to popular myths greyhounds dont need a great deal of excercise and arnt expensive to feed no more than your average dog. 2 x 20 minute walks will suffice them during the week although they will appreciate and benefit from longer walks at the weekend. They have a few requirements that are different from ordinary dogs. If they require veterinary treatment ie operation they will require a special anasthesia so its always important to make sure that your vet is sighthound aware. It is also preferable to feed them two smaller meals a day as opposed to one larger as they can suffer a condition called gastric torsion (bloat). It is also better to use a raised feeder to supply there meals on as this again reduces the risk. Greyhounds and Others. Greyhounds are usually excellent around children although as with any breed comman sense and supervision should always be the order of the day. Lots of people also believe that they arnt suitable to live with smaller dogs and or cats. Alot happily co exist with both and if you choose to adopt a greyhound and you have either if you take the path of a reputable rescue they will be able to advise you how to introduce the two parties and also help you to find a dog suitable for your home! GREYHOUNDS MAKE GREAT PETS! THEY ALL DESERVE A HOME OF THERE OWN TO ENJOY THERE RETIREMENT!
